The 12 metopes on the Temple of Zeus at Olympia (6 on the east side and 6 on the west) depicted the 12 labors of Herakles. They chronicled mankind's rebellion after the Flood. Based on the pains-taking work of Georg Treu and Kate da Costa, we have restored the metopes in their original colors. We are not used to seeing ancient Greek sculpture painted as it was originally, so it seems a bit surprising at first. What you see here is very close to what the original metopes actually looked like.
